What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint a skilled, enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational Cover Supervisor and PE Technician / Football Coach to support the delivery of outstanding Physical Education, school sport and wider learning opportunities across the college. The successful candidate will work closely with the PE department, provide high-quality PE and whole school cover supervision, and support the development of the Year 7 Football Performance Pathway in partnership with Argyle Community Trust. They should be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a desire to promote and develop children's learning and confidence.
This is a very rewarding role where you will be able to develop strong working relationships with children. Graduates who have an interest in pursuing a future career in teaching or individuals who have previous experience of working with children will be particularly suited to this role.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. PE Technician
The PE Technician will provide technical and practical support to ensure the smooth and effective running of a dynamic PE department. Key Elements:
- Provide technical and organisational support for PE lessons, fixtures, school sport and extracurricular activities, including preparation, maintenance and storage of equipment and updates to risk assessments
- Support the delivery of a broad and engaging PE curriculum by ensuring facilities, resources and learning environments are safe, organised and ready for use.
- Assist with the coordination and promotion of extracurricular clubs, inter-school competitions, tournaments and enrichment opportunities that increase participation and student engagement.
2. PE Cover Supervisor
The successful candidate will confidently deliver high-quality PE lessons across a range of activities and age groups. They will be able to cover class teachers to ensure the curriculum model is followed and students' learning journeys are uninterrupted and maintain the highest quality.
Key Aims:
- Deliver engaging and inclusive PE lessons across a variety of sports, health and fitness activities and gym-based sessions.
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, participation and learning in line with school policies and routines.
- Provide support to ensure the PE curriculum is delivered consistently and to a high standard across all key stages.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of all learners and ensure students remain motivated, active and challenged.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Supporting assessment, student progress and positive outcomes within examination PE.
- Assisting staff with intervention groups and targeted support where appropriate.
- Promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork, resilience and positive attitudes towards physical activity.
3. Whole School Cover Supervisor
The role will include operating in a whole school cover capacity when required.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise whole class learning across a range of curriculum subjects during staff absence.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and implement effective behaviour strategies to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Adapt confidently to different subjects, age groups and classroom settings.
- Support students in remaining focused, engaged and on task during lessons.
4. Football Academy Coach – Year 7 Performance Pathway
The successful candidate will support the development of the college’s Year 7 Football Performance Pathway in partnership with Argyle Community Trust.
Responsibilities:
- Support and deliver high-quality football coaching sessions on a weekly basis.
- Deliver and assist with strength and conditioning (S&C) sessions to support player development and athletic performance.
- Monitor, track and support the progress of academy players both physically and technically.
- Contribute to player reviews, development targets and performance feedback.
- Support football development opportunities before school, within dedicated curriculum time after school and during extracurricular provision both on and off site at Foulston park.
- Promote high standards of professionalism, discipline, teamwork and commitment amongst academy players
Other Important Elements of the Role
● Act as a positive role model for students across the school community.
● Support safeguarding, student welfare and inclusion at all times.
● Contribute to enrichment activities, educational visits, fixtures and wider school events.
● Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external partners.
● Demonstrate flexibility, reliability and a commitment to continuous professional development.
