Cover Supervisor job summary

Our school is seeking an enthusiastic and confident team player to join our team and to make sure that pupils continue to learn even when the availability of their teachers is disrupted.

We are looking for a confident, organised and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to help maintain high-quality learning when teachers are absent. You will supervise classes across different subjects and year groups, communicate and oversee work set by teachers, and create a calm, safe and purposeful classroom environment.

You will keep pupils focused and motivated, promote positive behaviour and inclusion, collect completed work and liaise with teaching and curriculum staff. When cover is not required, you may support small-group interventions, pastoral duties, detentions, trips and administrative tasks across the school.

The successful candidate will have strong communication, literacy, numeracy and organisational skills, experience of working with young people, and the ability to establish positive relationships and high expectations.

You will be resilient, reliable and flexible, with a genuine belief in the potential of every pupil and a clear commitment to safeguarding. We provide regular training in classroom management and opportunities to develop your experience across our administration and pastoral teams. For those considering a career in teaching, the role also offers access to training and future opportunities within Ark St Alban’s Academy and the wider Ark network.

Further information about the job

The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.
Visas cannot be sponsored.
If you're interested in teaching or training to teach in England as an international citizen, we can help you understand your next steps.

Commitment to safeguarding

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its academies.

Ark requires all employees to undertake an enhanced DBS check. You are required, before appointment, to disclose any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Non-disclosure may lead to termination of employment. However, disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment - this will depend upon the nature of the offence(s) and when they occurred.
