The Portsmouth Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated Cover Supervisor to join our cover team.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience before moving in to teacher training or a teaching position. You will develop skills in classroom management, behaviour for learning, lesson delivery and student engagement.
You will take responsibility for leading classes in the absence of a teacher ensuring students remain engaged with learning and maintaining high standards of behaviour and achievement.
Your role:
- Deliver pre-prepared lessons materials in the absence of the classroom teacher
- Support students with their learning by providing guidance and clarification on tasks
- Supervise individuals or small groups of students adapting tasks where needed to meet learning objectives
- Monitor and report pupil progress and behaviour to teaching staff and/or SENCO
- Support the development of literacy and numeracy skills of pupils from a wide variety of backgrounds
Assist in the planning and delivery of classroom activities when cover duties are not required
What you will need to succeed:
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
- Minimum requirement of Grade 4/C or above(or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science
- A flexible, positive attitude and strong classroom presence
- Understanding of how to support students with differing levels of ability and needs
- Ability to maintain high standards of behaviour and learning in a classroom environment
