Full-time equivalent salary
- £18,992.00 - £21,275.00 Annually (Actual) The salary would be Band 7, which has a spinal column point range of point 10 to 17 (pro rata). The actual salary stated is for Term Time only, working 31.25 hours per week. The full-time equivalent salary is £26,835 to £30,060. This total salary would increase slightly for anyone with over 5 years' service. Please ask for the details if this applies to you.
Cover Supervisor job summary
Successful candidates would initially be based in a Year 1 and 2 class, working in a teaching assistant role. The Cover Supervision duties would not be timetabled but the successful candidates would need to be willing to cover any age group as and when required, for example when teachers are absent due to illness, training or meetings. The role is intended to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities. The appointed person would:
- support students to engage with the work provided, including providing support where necessary with literacy, numeracy and organisational skills
- help prepare and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
- be willing to show initiative and help plan activities for the children
- be willing to be flexible and cover classes when required
- deliver pre-planned work in the classroom, liaising with teachers/other relevant staff with regard to work set for a class
- effectively manage instances of poor behaviour and any other immediate issues or emergencies that arise in accordance with school policy
- feed back to the class teacher on student engagement and any issues that may have arisen during any covered lesson(s)
- be willing and capable of supporting pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis, as and when required
- assist with providing additional support for children with special educational and/or medical needs, helping to ensure their safety and access to learning activities. This support may include intimate care, depending on the needs of individual
- undertake playground & lunchtime duties as and when needed
The successful applicant will also need to:
- have an excellent track record and strong skills as a Teaching Assistant and willingness to take on Cover Supervisor duties, as and when required
- be highly motivated and work well as part of a team
- be committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all children
- support the positive and caring ethos of the school, including support for the school ICARE values of inclusion, compassion, aspiration, resilience and excellence.
- promote inclusion of and highest aspirations for all pupils in the school
- comply with policies and procedures in relation to child protection, health and safety, equality & diversity, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns in a timely fashion
- support partnerships with staff, pupils, parents, governors and the community
- have experience of working with children who find learning and managing their behaviour difficult
- demonstrate a flexible approach and undertake any other ad hoc tasks and professional duties which are in keeping with the purpose and level of this role.

You don’t need to already have a specific Cover Supervision or NVQ qualification to apply for this post. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to carry out the Cover Supervisor training in the following year. It is not a legal requirement for a Cover Supervisor to already have the Cover Supervisor qualification.
Hours of work 8.30am-3.30pm. Monday to Friday with a 45 minute break for lunch. Term Time only.
The applicant would also be required to attend occasional compulsory training. This would usually be on a Wednesday after school.
