Cover Supervisor job summary

Slade Primary School is seeking a committed, enthusiastic and confident Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and can provide high-quality classroom supervision, ensuring pupils continue to learn and thrive when their teacher is absent. Whether you are considering a future career in teaching or have experience working with children in an educational setting, we would love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring pupils remain engaged in their learning.
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities across a range of year groups.
  • Create a calm, positive and purposeful learning environment where pupils feel supported and motivated.
  • Manage behaviour in line with the school's policies and expectations.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil engagement, progress and any issues arising during lessons.
  • Support the wider life of the school as part of a collaborative and dedicated staff team.
  • We are looking for someone who

  • Has experience of working with primary-aged children, ideally within a school setting.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is confident leading groups of children and can build positive relationships quickly.
  • Can adapt to different classrooms and respond positively to changing priorities.
  • Has high expectations of behaviour, learning and achievement.
  • Is organised, resilient and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
