Cover Teacher job summary

About Us

Waterside Academy is a warm and welcoming one-form entry primary school, educating children from Nursery to Year 6. We are proud of our inclusive ethos and strong relationships, ensuring that all pupils feel safe, supported and able to succeed.

The Role

As a Cover Teacher, you will play a key role in maintaining high-quality learning across the school. You will:

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons across a range of year groups
  • Create a calm, positive and purposeful learning environment
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and additional needs
  • Build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Provide clear feedback to support pupils’ progress

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for a teacher who enjoys working across different phases and contributing to the wider life of the school.

A school that values purposeful, high-impact workload

At Waterside, we are clear that staff time should be spent on what makes the greatest difference to pupils. Our systems are designed to be manageable, focused and supportive. This includes:

  • A straightforward approach to feedback, focused on impact rather than workload
  • A well-structured curriculum, so you are not planning from scratch when covering lessons
  • Clear expectations for teaching and learning, with practical support from leaders
  • A visible and supportive leadership team who understand the realities of the role
  • No expectation for extensive written planning for cover lessons
  • Strong systems to ensure that all pupils, including those with more complex needs, are well supported

Why join Waterside Academy?

  • A friendly, supportive and collaborative staff team
  • A positive school culture where relationships matter
  • A chance to make a real impact across the school
  • A school that has recently undergone Ofsted inspection, meaning you can join us at an exciting stage without the immediate pressure of inspection
