Curriculum Leader for Humanities

Job Description

As Curriculum Leader you have responsibility for high quality teaching and learning, achievement

and progress of students in your subject areas. It is your responsibility to lead and co-ordinate

curriculum development within this subject area. This job description should be read in conjunction

with Teacher’s Standards, the criteria for meeting the Upper Pay Scale and the DFE description of

Professional Duties of all teachers.

Leadership Responsibilities

This is a middle leader post with responsibility for a group of subjects as such you will support

other colleagues across school as appropriate.

• Ensure a clear, shared vision for the development of excellent practice in across the

subjects.

• To take overall responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning of for your subjects.

• Strategic leadership of the developing curriculum including coherent planning for whole

school themes (Literacy, numeracy, STEM, SMSC, British Values)

• Monitor and evaluate the performance of your subjects including:

o Quality of learning

o Quality of work produced

o Behaviour for learning

o Resources and the budget

o The learning environment

o Professional Review linked to micro trials and Professional Learning

o Student progress and achievement

• Ensure a positive approach to your subjects.

• To formulate and update the Subject Improvement Plan annually, working with

departmental colleagues, ensuring that it is consistent with the School Improvement Plan.

• To ensure that you make a contribution to school policy making and plans and

implementing these.

• To ensure that you make a contribution to cross-curricular, enrichment, revision and other

whole school activities.

• To meet regularly with your line manager to discuss the performance of your subjects and

to feedback on any issues.

Management Responsibilities

• To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policies e.g., on marking and assessment,

homework, use of ICT, rewards and sanctions etc, and to ensure that colleagues are

implementing such policies consistently.

• To monitor the progress of the Subject Improvement Plan, comparing targets against

achievement.

• To discuss ideas for improvement with colleagues, based on an analysis of data, and to help

them manage their implementation.

• To have overall management responsibility for your subject’s capitation, for the deployment of

teaching and non-teaching staff, and for facilities and resources

• Line management of relevant members of staff in your departments

About the Role

Westwood College and Leek High School, part of The Talentum Learning Trust (TTLT), we are seeking to appoint an

enthusiastic and committed Curriculum Lead in Social Science and Physical Education to provide strong middle

leadership across these subject areas, ideally with a Psychology background, however any Social Science or PE skills

are suitable.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher to take strategic responsibility for curriculum development,

high-quality teaching and learning, and student outcomes within Social Science and PE. As a middle leader, you will

work closely with colleagues to ensure a coherent, well-planned curriculum that supports whole-school priorities and

enables students to flourish academically and personally.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Westwood College, teaching Psychology at KS4 and Sixth Form,

while also developing strong professional links with colleagues at Leek High School through shared Sixth Form and

Trust-wide collaboration. The ability to offer additional subjects such as Health and Social Care, Sociology or Religious

Studies would be advantageous.
