Longbenton is a successful 11-18 school looking to appoint a Curriculum Leader of MFL from September 2020. This post has come about as a result of the existing post-holder retiring after many years of much valued service. The successful applicant will be well supported both in the department and by the senior leadership of the school.
MFL’s popularity with pupils at Longbenton has risen sharply in the past couple of years in both French and Spanish. Outcomes in MFL improved markedly in summer 2019 and there is potential for further progress due to significant improvements in the quality of teaching and learning within the department. This is an important appointment for us and our priority is getting a very good leader and teacher. In return, you will work in a very supportive environment with pupils who want to learn alongside a friendly staff who are keen to collaborate and develop their practice. The successful candidate will be required to teach across the age and ability range of KS3 for French as well as either French or Spanish to GCSE. The potential to be able to teach either French or Spanish at KS5 would be an advantage. We have a strong and balanced skill set in our MFL teaching team, which means that we would welcome applicants with particular strengths in either French or Spanish.

Essential skills and experience

Be an excellent teacher, demonstrating enthusiasm and a commitment to education, with a track record of consistently delivering good or outstanding lessons in KS3 French.
Having a proven track record off being a highly effective teacher of either French or Spanish at GCSE level.
Have successful experience of having raised standards of achievement in MFL.
Be able to monitor and evaluate students’ progress and staff performance.
Be able to manage a variety of resources (staff and funds) and contribute effectively to the smooth running of the department and raising attainment across all key stages.
Able to use data effectively to raise attainment and identify intervention where appropriate.
Have exemplary subject knowledge.
