Curriculum Leader of PE and Health job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop PE and Health & Social Care at Bradford Girls’ Grammar School, a successful and ambitious school where students are encouraged to aspire, succeed and lead. As Curriculum Leader, you will be responsible for shaping an engaging, inclusive and ambitious curriculum that enables every student to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally.

As the lead subject specialist, you will drive excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring that curriculum planning, delivery and assessment consistently meet the highest standards. You will lead the development of schemes of work, monitor student progress, and use assessment effectively to secure strong outcomes. Working closely with colleagues, you will provide support, challenge and professional guidance, fostering a culture where high-quality teaching and continual improvement are the norm.

The role extends beyond curriculum leadership. You will be instrumental in promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity and wellbeing, whilst creating opportunities for students to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership skills through sport and health education. You will champion participation, celebrate success and ensure that PE and Health & Social Care make a significant contribution to students’ wider development and future aspirations.

As a middle leader, you will work collaboratively with senior leaders and fellow curriculum leaders to help drive whole-school improvement. You will lead departmental meetings, support quality assurance activities, oversee planning and assessment practices, and contribute positively to the school's values-driven culture. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the vision, enthusiasm and determination to inspire students and colleagues alike.

This role would suit an ambitious teacher with a passion for PE, health education and student wellbeing, who is ready to make a lasting impact within a supportive and forward-thinking school community. Joining Bradford Girls’ Grammar School and BDAT offers the opportunity to contribute to a school with high aspirations, strong values and a clear commitment to excellence for every student.
