School Data and MIS Manager

37 hours per week, term time plus 3 weeks

Salary £35,513 - £42,861 per annum full time equivalent, pro rata to £32,856 - £39,655

Job Summary:

The School Data & MIS Manager is responsible for overseeing the collection, organisation, management, and analysis of student and school data and the management, implementation, and also the maintenance of the school’s Management Information System, Arbor. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that accurate and timely data is available for academic planning, student assessment, and regulatory reporting.

The Data Manager will collaborate with educators, administrators, and external agencies to maintain data integrity and support decision-making processes that promote student achievement and school improvement. The MIS manager role includes ensuring that accurate data is collected, processed, and reported efficiently to support decision-making, and administrative functions. they will work closely with school administrators, teachers, and IT teams to ensure the system is integrated seamlessly into the day-to-day operations of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • MIS Management: Manage and maintain the school’s MIS, including the Assessment section, leading on the setting up and management of all marksheets. Ensure the accuracy, security, and integrity of student and staff data.

  • Data Management: Collect, organize, and maintain accurate student and school data, including enrolment records, attendance, academic performance, assessments, and demographic information.

  • Data Analysis: To support the analysis of student data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement, providing reports that assist in decision-making for curriculum planning and intervention strategies.

  • Data Analysis Tools: to manage SISRA, FFT and ALPs Connect, including uploading data, managing custom groups, providing reports

  • Reporting: to lead on the collecting and issuing of progress data for all year groups, as per the whole school data calendar

  • Reporting & Compliance: Ensure all required reports (county and DfE returns) are accurately compiled and submitted on time in compliance with GDPR regulations.

  • Knowledge of DfE rules: discounting codes, approved qualifications, performance tables

  • Software and Database Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot the school’s data management systems, ensuring alongside the IT Network Team that software and databases are up to date and function efficiently.

  • Data Privacy & Security: Ensure the confidentiality and security of student data, when sharing with stakeholders, adhering to all privacy regulations such as GDPR

System Administration:

  • Collaboration: Work closely with school leadership, teachers, and external partners to support data-driven decision-making processes.

  • Training & Support: Provide training and support for staff members on how to input, update, and interpret data in the school’s management systems.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Special Projects: Lead or support special data-related projects, such as census, adapting the use of the MIS to support data management and analysis or evaluating new data tools and software.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

            • A degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in a data-related field or education.
            • Experience of managing and analysing large datasets, preferably within an education setting.
            • Strong understanding of data protection legislation, including GDPR.
            • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or similar data analysis tools), and experience with school management software (e.g., SIMS, Arbor, or similar systems).
            • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
            • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and analysis.
            • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
            • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
            • Experience working in a secondary school or educational setting.

            Experience of the MIS Arbor

            • Knowledge of educational assessments, grading systems, and reporting processes.
            • A working knowledge of SQL or other programming languages for data manipulation is advantageous.
            • Previous experience in a data manager or similar role is highly desirable.
