What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Medical Lead to join us at Harris Academy Peckham.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience in Multi-ethnic urban schools
  • Further qualification. Experience of working in an 11-18 school
  • Evidence of continuous self-development and updated knowledge in safeguarding
  • A clear and good understanding of safeguarding issues
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft software with knowledge of using a management Information system for input and export of student data Knowledge of the range of agencies that work with students and their families
  • Training in child protection and safeguarding procedures
  • Basic knowledge of first aid; eg. Emergency first aid
  • Knowledge of many of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds

Further details about the role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Referring cases of suspected abuse to the local authority children's social care
  • Support staff who make referrals to local authority children's social care
  • Referring cases to the Channel programme where there is a radicalisation concern and supporting staff who make such referrals
  • Referring cases where a person is dismissed or left due to risk/harm to a child to the Disclosure and Barring Service
  • Referring cases where a crime may have been committed to the Police
  • Delivering safeguarding training
  • Line management of support staff
  • Preparing and presenting information to Academy Governors, ALG and Ofsted
  • Management of CPOMS, ensuring that Academy Staff are using it correctly
  • Being the first point of contact for administering first aid to students and staff
  • Being the named responsible officer for all first aid matters
  • Managing the register of suitably qualified first aiders, ensuring there is a sufficient number to comply with published ratios
  • Administration of student medication
  • Delivering specific medical related needs of students with individual Statements of Additional Needs
  • Administering and assisting with the programme of student medical examinations, assessments and inoculations
  • Advising and training staff (in conjunction with the Health Authority) in procedures which they may be expected to carry out in the absence of a trained nurse
  • Promoting health education in partnership with the teaching/support staff and the Health Authority
  • Ensuring that the highest possible standards of clinical procedures are maintained
  • Liaising with parents and medical personnel to satisfy the health needs of students
  • Ensuring suitable and sufficient stocks of first aid consumables and equipment
  • Working within current Child Protection Procedures and liaising with the campus nominated Child Protection Officer
  • Ensuring confidentiality of medical information
  • Ensuring up-to-date clinical and professional practice is maintained
