Derwent Primary School is situated in an area of Derby City with 262 pupils on roll, aged from two to eleven years. We are a welcoming, inclusive school where children achieve to their full potential.

We opened as an academy in June 2017 and we are a school that has shown rapid improvement. We have seen our results in Early Years rise to be in line with National Average. The end of Key Stage one results are showing an upward trend with the expectation that they will be in line with National Average in 2020. The percentage of pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths was above National Average in 2019. There has been a huge improvement in the percentage of pupils passing the Y1 phonics screening check in the last two years and it is now above National Average at 92%.

At Derwent we recognise children’s individuality and the challenges they face. Therefore, reflected in the heart of our curriculum design, we ensure that all children have an entitlement to rich and stimulating learning overflowing with first-hand experiences relevant to their needs. The curriculum gives all learners, particularly the most disadvantaged the knowledge and self-discipline to become ‘anything’ and ‘anyone’.
