What skills and experience we're looking for

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Degree or equivalent with evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role
  • Leadership/management training (e.g. NPQSL/NPQH) – desirable

Experience

  • Successful teaching experience with pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a special or mainstream school, including leading school improvement initiatives

  • Experience of supporting and managing staff teams and working productively with parents/carers and multi‑agency professionals

  • Experience of curriculum and assessment development, including for post‑16 learners and transition planning

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of differentiation and best practice for pupils with complex SEND, including SLD/PMLD

  • Excellent understanding of assessment and use of assessment information to drive progress
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and the ability to act as (or train to be) a Designated

Safeguarding Lead

  • Ability to analyse data to improve outcomes; confident use of IT systems
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire staff; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strengthening Community & Partnerships
  • Kind, respectful and inclusive; able to build positive professional relationships
  • Self‑motivated with high levels of personal drive and resilience; able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Analytical, organised and attentive to detail with strong time‑management
  • An effective team player who enthuses and inspires others; a sense of humour and fun
  • High expectations of self, colleagues and learners; commitment to the broader life of the school

Glenwood is a brave special school for pupils aged 3-19 years. We provide for 228 young people. We moved into a superb building in September 2017 and we are developing a successful 20 bed residential provision, which is an educational intervention, as part of the school’s holistic approach.
