About this Role

Plantsbrook School is seeking to appoint an exceptional and highly motivated Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion and Wellbeing to join our Senior Leadership Team from January 2026.

This is a pivotal leadership role within the school, offering the opportunity to shape a culture where every young person feels safe, supported, and able to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across inclusion, safeguarding, wellbeing, attendance, and behaviour, ensuring that all pupils—regardless of background, disadvantage, or SEND status—experience a high-quality and equitable education.

As a senior leader, you will play a key role in driving our inclusive ethos, working closely with colleagues, families, and external partners to ensure that vulnerable pupils receive the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role

The Deputy Headteacher will:

  • Lead the school’s strategic approach to inclusion, ensuring the curriculum is accessible and ambitious for all learners, including those with EHCPs, Children in Care, and pupils facing barriers to attendance.
  • Act as a senior member of the safeguarding team, ensuring robust safeguarding practice across the school.
  • Champion student and staff wellbeing, promoting a culture of care, respect, and resilience.
  • Lead strategies to improve attendance and punctuality, using data to inform targeted interventions.
  • Support colleagues to maintain high standards of behaviour, promoting positive and restorative approaches.
  • Line manage key staff, including the Assistant Headteacher (Behaviour, Standards and Community) and the SEND team, supporting professional development and accountability.
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic planning, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors on school improvement priorities.
  • Maintain a teaching commitment of approximately 0.3, modelling excellent classroom practice.

The Person

We are looking for a senior leader who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has significant leadership experience in a secondary school.
  • Has a strong track record in pastoral leadership, safeguarding, and behaviour management.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use data strategically to improve outcomes for students.
  • Is an outstanding communicator, capable of building strong relationships with staff, students, parents, and external partners.
  • Leads with empathy, optimism, and integrity, fostering a culture of support and high expectations.
  • Is passionate about comprehensive education, inclusion, and community engagement.
