Deputy Headteacher job summary

St Michael's Church of England Primary School and Acorn Education Trust are looking to appoint an inspirational and driven Deputy Headteacher to join its team of senior leaders, and provide support in leading this inclusive and nurturing school, with effect from September 2026.

We are an open and inclusive primary school, educating children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Located in the garrison town of Larkhill, Wiltshire, our school aims to spark interest, ignite a passion for learning and fire up ambition to inspire every child to recognise and exceed expectations. Our staff provide a challenging, yet nurturing, environment based on our Christian values and we are committed to learning outside the classroom, as much as inside; with regular trips planned and visitors invited in to help make the learning relevant and linked to both our local community and the wider world. In May 2022 we joined Acorn Education Trust, which has provided exciting opportunities to improve local education and draw on collective experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable teacher who is an existing or aspiring senior leader looking to build on the many established strengths of this vibrant school. The successful candidate will be expected to support the headteacher in leading enthusiastic and dedicated staff towards further enhancement of the school’s offer. We will appoint the candidate that will best fit the team and the needs of the school.

We are looking for someone with:

  • The drive, vision and ambition to achieve excellence for all our pupils;
  • An excellent understanding of teaching and learning;
  • Previous leadership experience in a primary setting;
  • The ability to challenge, inspire and motivate colleagues;
  • Willingness to lead on aspects of whole school development (in line with skill set and experience);
  • An understanding of the current educational climate;
  • A desire to work within the Multi Academy Trust structure.

We strongly encourage prospective candidates to visit our school and experience our friendly school community first-hand.

Please contact our school admin office, to make an appointment or for an informal conversation about the role on: 01980-670268
