Who we are

Shavington Academy is the founding school of a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) that began in September 2015. We enjoy an excellent relationship with our local primary schools, contributing to both their curriculum offer and staff professional development. Due to our popularity, we have been oversubscribed in recent years.

As a growing academy, it is our priority to maintain our “close knit, caring and inclusive community” (Ofsted June 2018), whilst also offering the highest academic standards. To read our Short Inspection Ofsted report, see below.

We are a school with excellent progress and high aspirations, with several departments in the school achieving outcomes that place us in the top 25% of schools nationally.

As an academy, in 2018 we achieved the AcSEED award, for our approach and provision for the well-being of pupils. We were awarded third place in the national ACCORD awards 2018 for our work on community cohesion and tolerance.

We have met all Gatsby benchmarks and were awarded Careers Mark in April 2019. It is a priority for us to maintain and build on this achievement.

Professional development

As one of fourteen high schools in Cheshire East to form the Chimney House Teaching School Alliance, we both deliver and receive high quality training to support professional development at all levels, within the partnership. The culture of our academy is that it is a forum in which to discuss pedagogy, so that we may continually improve by supporting each other. There is also the opportunity for mentoring at all levels.

All teachers have professional development opportunities, designed for their career point, and staff team meetings are more often than not given over to the development and refining of practice to support pupil progress rather than housekeeping. There has been considerable work done to address the work life balance of our teachers, who give of their time willingly.

“Staff Morale is high.” (Ofsted 27th June 2018)

Newly Qualified Teachers benefit from a programme led by members of the Senior Leadership Team, there is an Early Professional Development Programme for second year teachers and our in- house Middle Leaders Development Programme. Learning walks are common and developmental. At Shavington, all Senior Leaders teach GCSE groups, to send out a clear message that teaching pupils is the most important thing that we ever do.
