Curriculum
- To have an awareness of curriculum and academic processes in order to support learners to be successful in their engagement with education
- To support & demonstrate the ethos of setting high expectations, ensuring hard work and independence in learning of all students
- To support the drive for high student achievement through liaison with SLT, Year Team Leaders, RSLs, course leaders and students
- To support students into
mock examinations and through Non-Examined Assessments as appropriate
In addition, the DYTL should:
- To utilise 3Rs data to identify students within KS3 requiring additional curriculum and/or intervention to engage effectively with learning
- To implement pastoral interventions to proactively respond to challenges identified through 3R data analysis

Teaching and Learning
- To support the gathering of student voice around learning experiences
- To monitor the effectiveness of completion of work set outside the classroom for example as homework, as remote learning or during 10th hour lessons
- To contribute to the school timetable inclusion provision as appropriate, including supervised study
- To support students to complete effective learning during time spent outside of the mainstream classroom
School organisation
- To work as part of the Pastoral Team, sharing duties and information as appropriate
- Respond/assist with the On Call system, which will involve the monitoring and logging of ‘on calls’, reporting to parents/guardians and re-engaging students with lessons
- Providing support at break, lunchtime and after school detentions
- Be actively involved in promoting a respectful school environment through strong presence in corridors at lesson changeovers, during break times, end of lunchtimes and at the end of the day, wherever possible
- Responding quickly and efficiently to the varying demands of the role, some of which may be of an unpredictable nature
- Undertake duties and staffing of the pastoral office
- To report any Health and Safety concerns to relevant colleagues.

Inclusion
- To ensure any safeguarding concerns are raised and reported through appropriate channels
- To undertake training for this role as may be necessary
- To support students holistically to be successful through upholding high standards including achievement, personal development and attendance
- To monitor uniform concerns
- To liaise with the SENDCo and students regarding progress and achievement
- To liaise with appropriate members of staff regarding progress concerns and interventions put in place
In addition, the DYTL should:
- To intervene to support vulnerable students where attendance has created a barrier to achievement
- Be the point of call for vulnerable students’ parents, triaging information, and support as appropriate
- Complete financial tracking of specific resource support for students in vulnerable groups
Vulnerable students are classified as Disadvantaged, Young carers, PLAC, Service students including initiating pastoral support during deployment, Refugees, Any other group as identified through changing circumstance or demographic. It does not include those solely identified on the SEND register where alternative provision is made
Community
- To support Year Team Leader to organise and implement a framework for daily tutorial activities
- To support Year Team Leader to ensure that our students understand their responsibilities, are respectful and resilient and are nurtured to become well rounded individuals
- To plan, in conjunction with Year Team Leader, the tutor programme and to monitor its weekly delivery
- To promote the ethos of the school through contributing to high-quality assemblies
- To be available to support all relevant parent events
- Have involvement in relevant meetings with parents and professionals
- To support the recruitment of staff through facilitation of tours and student voice as appropriate
- To have an awareness of systems for transition to next steps in education
- To support the transition process for students into Ashby School or Ashby Sixth Form as appropriate
- To be present at school on and around results days to provide advice for students within these arrangements
- To attend promotion events as appropriate (utilising TOiL if these occur external to Ashby School day)
- To support the application for next steps in learning post-16 or post sixth form
In addition, the DYTL should:
- To initiate and respond to communications with parents of students in vulnerable groups ensuring that they are kept fully informed and involved in the overall progress of their children
- To support leadership opportunities for students with particular focus on those students in vulnerable groups
- To support vulnerable students within the transition process as appropriate.

- Great interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Level 2 qualifications in maths/numeracy and English/literacy.
- Effective ICT skills, particularly word, excel & outlook.
- Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.
- Willingness to train in First Aid
- Willingness to accompany off-site visits
- Empathy with young people and a desire to see them reach their potential regardless of barriers.

Our Student Experience
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum provides a broad and balanced experience for our students meeting the National Curriculum requirements alongside our own Empowered to Learn curriculum which invests in our young people by growing skills for learning and life. The result is a varied curriculum delivered in fantastic facilities that supports progression to Key Stage 4 and beyond.
Our Key Stage 4 curriculum incorporates a broad and balanced offer that is flexible enough to meet the needs of our individual students and best supports both achievement and progression to further education be that within our own Sixth Form or beyond. A significant number of our KS4 students study a language at GCSE
Ashby Sixth Form provides a wide range of qualifications for students who have studied in our own Key Stage 3 & 4 but also welcomes around half its students from schools from the wider locality. Providing the broadest curriculum offer in North West Leicestershire, students’ progress from our Sixth Form into Apprenticeships, employability and university equipped with the qualifications, skills and experiences to make them successful, whatever path they choose.
Our Pastoral Support
Each of our year groups are led by a pastoral Year Team Leader and supported by our pastoral admin team who focus on supporting all our students but particularly our Looked After Children and those in receipt of Pupil Premium as well as those struggling with their wellbeing.
Our dedicated Inclusion support includes:
- The LINC Learning and Inclusion Centre where our dedicated team of Teaching and Learning Support Assistants work with students with Special Educational Needs in both classroom settings and intervention groups.
- Our Year Team Leader led student focused well-being provision.
- The Gateway, an on-site Appropriate Provision supporting students who find mainstream learning more challenging through facilitating a range of hybrid learning models.
Our Curriculum & Learning Support
We support our students’ learning through a range of staff positions including:
- Our Teaching Assistants who support individual and small groups of students with a range of learning needs in the classroom and beyond
- Our cover supervision team who work with students in the event of staff absence to maintain learning.
- Our library team who support our students to open their minds through reading
- Our technicians who work in our practical subjects to both support and facilitate learning in a student facing way.
- Our data team who support tracking and intervention of student progress
- Our administrative support who ensure the smooth running of our school
Our Premises, Catering and Cleaning Team
We strongly believe that where we create the right environment for learning, our students have the best possible chance of success. We do this through investment in our premises, catering and cleaning teams all supported by our housekeepers. All these individuals are key to creating ownership of our learning spaces so all staff can tangibly contribute to our students’ progress .
Staff Wellbeing
Staff wellbeing, and ensuring a healthy work/life balance for our staff is very important. We have lots of wellbeing initiatives in place to support staff in their roles, including:
Ø A wellbeing specific e-mail up for you to use when you need to talk to someone
Ø Weekly staff challenges to encourage team building and fun
Ø Weekly check-in email for staff to feedback on what is going well and what needs to improve
Ø Weekly nominations of other staff who have gone above and beyond which are then celebrated in the whole school weekly briefing
