Design Technology Technician - Full or Part time job summary

Prepare materials, tools and equipment required for Design & Technology lessons, including supporting the use and maintenance of CAD/CAM equipment such as laser cutters, CNC routers, 3D printers and vinyl cutters.

Support teaching staff in the preparation and delivery of practical lessons, including producing CAD drawing or digital files for teaching resources or student projects when needed.

Maintain DT workshops, ensuring they are organised, clean and safe learning environments.

Carry out routine maintenance, basic repairs and checks on machinery and equipment.

Ensure all equipment complies with health and safety requirements and report faults where necessary.

Manage stock levels of materials, components and consumables, including ordering when required.

Maintain an accurate inventory of tools and equipment.

Support the safe storage and disposal of materials in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Assist with demonstrations and provide technical support during practical activities when appropriate.

Ensure that appropriate risk assessments are followed for practical work.

Support students in using tools and equipment safely under the direction of teaching staff.

Assist with the preparation and display of student work.

Provide administrative support to the department where required.

Support the department with organisation of coursework moderation and examination preparation where relevant.

Take responsibility for the safety and welfare of students when working in practical environments by supporting high standards of behaviour within the workshop environment.

Liaise with outside agencies to support Health and Safety inspections, PAT testing and with any dust extraction issues.

Maintain workshop first aid kit and become First Aid trained.
