Working Hours: Full time36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:15am to 16:15pm. Term Time only, with 5 days in the school holidays to provide DSL/safeguarding coverage. Using the banked hours system, this equates to a full year contracted hours, worked predominantly during term time. Given the nature of the role some flexibility may be required concerning start and end times to meet the needs of the school.

Are you passionate about safeguarding, mental health, and making a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people? Join the dedicated team at Moseley School and Sixth Form as our Deputy DSL with specific responsibility for Mental Health and Children in Care (CIC).
At our vibrant and diverse secondary school, you will play a key role in deputising for our senior DSL, supporting the whole school provision as part of the DSL team, specifically you will be responsible for developing and driving strategies to support mental health and wellbeing for all students, especially CiC and those most in need.

- Experienced in dealing with Children in Care (CiC)
- Able to lead on mental health provision across the school, providing support and guidance for students and staff
- Effective in championing the needs of vulnerable students
- Required to work closely with families and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for our students
- Able to inspire and motivate students and staff.
Core Purpose:
- Be the Designated Deputy Safeguarding Lead (DSL) as part of the DSL Team, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding practice in line with current legislation and guidance
- Liaise with Deputy Headteacher (Standards and Student Welfare) on strategic elements of Safeguarding, including staff training and case management
- Lead on mental health provision within the school, developing and implementing strategies to support the wellbeing of all students, with a particular focus on Children in Care (CiC) and other vulnerable groups
- To take overall operational responsibility for the provision of CiC
- Work collaboratively to ensure all safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures are effectively implemented, monitored and reviewed
- Provide expert advice and guidance to staff, students, and families regarding safeguarding, mental health and wellbeing
- Liaise with external agencies and ensure timely referrals and interventions for students at risk
Responsibilities:
- Take operational responsibility, within the DSL team, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of statutory guidance (including Keeping Children Safe in Education) and best practice
- Oversee and coordinate the school’s response to safeguarding concerns, including those related to mental health and vulnerable students
- Act as the school’s mental health lead, driving whole-school approaches to mental health and wellbeing
- To work with Pastoral Managers to provide targeted support for Children in Care (CiC), ensuring their needs are met and progress monitored
- Develop and deliver training for staff on safeguarding, mental health, and supporting vulnerable students
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of safeguarding and mental health concerns
- To meet regularly with Pastoral Managers regarding Safeguarding cases in their year group
- To quality assure record keeping and review this regularly
- To be case manager for identified Safeguarding cases
- To work with Pastoral Managers to ensure all CiC cases are up to date (including PEPs) and to quality assure this
- To ensure all funding follows the child and is accounted for
- To ensure all Safeguarding responsibilities for home tutors working with CiC are fulfilled
- Build strong relationships with students, families, staff, and external agencies to ensure effective support for vulnerable students
- Contribute to the development and implementation of relevant school policies, including safeguarding and mental health
- Promote a culture of vigilance, inclusivity and high expectations across the school.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist with on call duties as appropriate
- Responsible for student behaviour and welfare in public places during break, lunch, change of lesson, beginning and end of school day as directed
- Attend meetings as required
- Participate in professional development opportunities, willingness to develop additional skills and expertise
- Keep up to date with current educational developments and legislation affecting your area of responsibility
- Contribute to school development through identified communication and consultation channels
- Treat students, parents and colleagues fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect
- To respect the confidential nature of information relating to the school, students and customers
- Be aware of and support differences and ensure equal opportunities for all
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
- Develop constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals
- Be aware of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and report any concerns in accordance with the school’s safeguarding policy
- To comply with the school’s Health and Safety policy and statutory requirements
- To undertake any other duties not detailed above commensurate with the level of the post
