About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Governance and Board Effectiveness to lead and develop high-quality governance across the Trust.
You will act as the principal adviser to the Chair, Trustees, and CEO, ensuring governance frameworks, practices, and culture enable strong strategic leadership, compliance, and organisational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve governance structures, systems, and processes across the Trust
- Advise the Chair, Trustees, and executive leaders on governance, constitutional and procedural matters
- Ensure effective operation of the Board and committees, including oversight of clerking arrangements
- Oversee governance compliance, statutory records, and regulatory requirements
- Develop Trust-wide governance reporting, risk frameworks, and performance monitoring
- Lead governance self-evaluation, board development, and effectiveness reviews
- Support Trust growth, including due diligence and onboarding of new schools
- Manage governance systems and lead implementation improvement
About You
We are looking for a governance professional who brings:
- Significant experience in governance (ideally within education or a regulated sector)
- Strong knowledge of governance law, charity/company law, and compliance requirements
- Experience supporting boards and committees, including high-quality clerking and minute-taking
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- A proactive, solution-focused approach and attention to detail
