Director of Learning for Business, Digital and Future Pathways job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Director of Learning for Business, Digital and Future Pathways at Whitcliffe Mount School. This role will have strategic oversight of our Enterprise, Computing, Health & Social Care and Child Development departments.

Under the leadership of a new and ambitious Headteacher, we are seeking an experienced and inspirational leader with the passion, enthusiasm and expertise to drive excellence across this key area of the curriculum. Overall purpose of role

As the Director of Learning for Business, Digital and Future Pathways you will be required to meet the general requirements of this post, as specified in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. In addition, you will be required to fulfil any reasonable expectations from the principal/Trust. The post will require you to work in partnership with the Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development teaching staff, TLR holders, Senior Leadership Team and governors to ensure the continuous improvement of Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development across the school/Trust.

Key Accountabilities

Leadership

  • Lead and support staff within the Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development department to promote and facilitate the delivery of excellent teaching and learning in Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development.
  • Improve students’ levels of progress and attainment in Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development.
  • Develop strategies for helping all students achieve the highest standards, helping to overcome disadvantage, disability, special needs or other potential barriers to success.
  • Coach and guide colleagues to improve the quality of teaching and learning Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development.
  • Support high standards of student behaviour for learning and engagement.
  • Ensure students work in safe environment, taking responsibility for ensuring the risks are identified and managed well.
  • Support whole-school aims and the school’s senior leadership team in raising standards of teaching and learning and student outcomes.
  • Help develop, implement, monitor and evaluate development plans for the department
  • Devise, implement, monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in the department Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development and intervene to improve standards, narrowing the progress gap in Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development for different groups of students.
  • Agree clear, achievable outcomes with staff and/or students.
  • Help colleagues that you line manage to produce their own personal development plan. Review progress towards objectives consistently within the school’s framework for benchmarking.
  • Help track students’ progress, rewarding success and intervening to improve standards.
  • Identify best practice within the faculty and across the school and help to share it with others.
  • Contribute to the overall direction of the school by attending selected senior leadership team meetings and helping to devise and implement whole-school policies.
  • Maintain a visible presence around the school, supporting duty teams and others by insisting upon and helping to maintain high standards of student conduct in lessons and around the school.
  • Manage staff and resources, to secure the best possible outcomes in Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development for all students.
  • Monitor progress and evaluate impact against improvement plans, revising plans or taking other action to ensure success.
  • Plan, adapt and deliver an ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all groups of students, developing the skills and knowledge students need to be successful in their adult lives, with an appreciation for Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development.
  • To respond flexibly to curriculum changes that may be required from time to time, including alterations to line management responsibilities within the scope and scale of this role.
  • Ensure that all students in the school are well-prepared for public examinations in Computing, Business, Health and Social and Child Development.

  • Teaching:

    Undertake the duties of a teacher, as described in the teachers’ pay and conditions document:

    • Plan and teach lessons to assigned classes, to teach within the context of the trust’s or school’s plans, curriculum and schemes of work.
    • Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned students.
    • Participate in arrangements for preparing students for external examinations.
    • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s or trust’s policies, practices and procedures in such a way as to support the trust’s / school’s values and vision.
    • Work with others on curriculum and/or pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes.
    • In exceptional circumstances, supervise and so far as practicable teach any students where the person timetabled to take the class is not available to do so.
    • Maintain good order and discipline among students.
    • Participate in arrangements for the appraisal and review of own performance.
    • Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development and, where appropriate, that of other teachers and support staff including induction.
    • Communicate with students, parents and carers.
    • Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school.
    • Undertake any other reasonable task associated within the role of Director of Learning for Business, Digital and Future Pathways, as determined by the Headteacher/Trust.
