A graduate with qualified teacher status.

An outstanding teacher of Maths, with a strong teaching record.

Relevant qualifications (both formal and through appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the appointment.

Excellent in-depth knowledge of the place of the Maths curriculum in the development of young people and of the place of within the wider curriculum.

An understanding of the importance of a rigorous reading strategy to ensure students’ confidence and reading fluency.

Job description

Introduction to the Department

The Maths team currently consists of 10 teachers, 3 of whom hold positions of responsibility across the Key Stages in English, including a Curriculum Leader of Maths. Maths is extremely well taught across all Key Stages including Sixth Form education with students reaching high levels of attainment and achievement. You will be joining a highly performing team with a proven track record of delivering excellent GCSE and A level results.

Duties of role will include:

To be able to secure high standards of learning and achievement across the full ability range at Key Stage 3 and 4

To be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge

To be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding the curriculum and of a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies and know how to use them to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential

To have high expectations of young people

To be prepared to contribute to broad aspects of Mathematics within the school.

To be able to work effectively as part of a team, to identify opportunities for sharing good practice

Plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning which:

Meets the needs of all learners, taking into account the individual requirements of each student.

Ensures effective and consistent implementation of the curriculum

Fulfils the demands of the relevant specifications, tutor guides and college ethos.

Makes a positive impact on student attainment and achievement.

Work with other staff in contributing to student learning including:

Supporting students outside their timetabled learning sessions through support clinics and tutorials.

Enhancing students’ experience of Mathematics through involvement in enrichment activities.

Attend Mathematics team meetings.

Working with other staff to enhance the curriculum, innovate new ideas to improve student outcomes and provide wider enriching experiences for students.

Assessment and Reporting:

Provide students with regular, incisive feedback in response to their written work, in line with college policies.

Ensure regular formative assessment takes place to address knowledge gaps.

Ensure that marking, recording and reporting are in line with school policies.

Be able to accurately assess each learning groups’ levels of attainment against student targets and national benchmarks.

Fulfil wider professional responsibilities including:

Set and maintain high standards, expectations and aspirations for both staff and students, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect and that they receive appropriate guidance, support and recognition.

Maintain a safe and well-ordered learning environment, safeguarding students’ health and safety, managing behaviour effectively and rewarding success appropriately.

Actively seek opportunities for professional development to further enhance pedagogy and practice, and keep up to date with curriculum and qualification changes.

The Director of Leader should ensure:

  • there is a clear sense of purpose, direction and leadership for the Learning Tutors in the delivery team;
  • curriculum policy is appropriate and clearly reflects the mission of the College;
  • audit and review of the student learning. Consequently, improvement plans must be prepared, implemented, monitored and evaluated including an indication of financial requirements;
  • budget plans are properly prepared in line with college procedures;
  • planning of student learning is of high quality and supports the subject curriculum policy. Practice must reflect the prepared tutor and student guides;
  • facilities and resources are used efficiently and effectively and that the delegated budget is used expeditiously;
  • appropriate administrative procedures are in place to maintain accurate assessment records and that these reflect the College policies and procedures;
  • roles and responsibilities are delegated appropriately. Objectives are set which provide opportunity for the delivery team of learning tutors to professionally develop;
  • the delivery team have adequate guidance and support in order to enable them to fulfil their roles and responsibilities and meet their objectives;
  • professional development needs of team members are identified and addressed;
  • there is appropriate monitoring and evaluation of the work of the individual and the team as a whole.
  • that clear communication pathways and structures exist within the delivery team, with other relevant learning tutors and the appropriate Directors of Learning/Learning Leaders.
  • there is active collaboration across Trust schools, as and when appropriate.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic non-teacher to work across year 7. Alongside the Heads of Year, the successful candidates will play a key role in the progress and achievement of all students.
