Design and Technology Teacher

Please note that this role is not suitable for Early Career Teacher (ECT) candidates.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a dedicated Design and Technology teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to students, fostering their academic and personal growth, and contributing to the overall improvement and development of the academy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and deliver a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum.
  • Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.
  • Facilitate a learning experience that allows students to achieve their individual potential.
  • Contribute to raising standards of student progress and attainment.
  • Ensure a high-quality learning experience for students that meets internal and external quality standards.
  • Prepare and update subject materials.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to stimulate learning.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures.
  • Assess, record, and report on student progress and development.
  • Participate in the development of syllabuses, resources, and teaching strategies.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive working environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the academy’s CPD programme.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and external bodies.
  • Contribute to the academy’s planning and quality assurance activities.
  • Support the academy’s ethos and policies.

Our Design and Technology Department is led by a new Subject Leader for Design and the department offers a wide and varied KS3 curriculum including resistant materials, graphics, CAD/CAM, food and textiles. The KS4 offer currently includes vocational Engineering and GCSE Food preparation and nutrition and is looking to offer GCSE Product Design from September 2026. The department also offers the popular OCR A Level Product Design course.

The facilities in Design Technology include 2 workshops, a well-resourced computer suite, a CAD/CAM room equipped with a new laser cutter and 3D printers and a food room. The department is well looked after and maintained by two DT technicians. There are currently 3 full time DT teachers and 2 members of the senior team who are specialists in DT that also teach in the department and we are looking for one further DT teacher to teach across the whole spectrum of DT, specialising in RM and engineering as a preference with the ability to teach other aspects including food and some KS3 art.
