DT Food & Textiles Technician

Salary Grade C - £ 26,824 (FTE)

16 hours per week

Term Time Only including INSET days

Reporting to : Head of Design & Technology

Purpose of post : Supporting teaching staff in the Design & Technology classrooms, providing admin support and preparing materials and equipment to support teaching and learning.

As a Technician within the Food and Textiles Department you will:

  • Have a strong awareness of the Health & Safety issues in the Food & Technology areas.
  • Support teaching staff in the classrooms.

  • Prepare material and equipment for both food and textiles lessons.

  • Order materials and ingredients required for lessons.

  • Maintain cleanliness within the classroom at all times.

  • Prepare resources and materials for display.

  • Maintain resources, display and equipment.

  • Undertake administrative duties within the department including the use of ICT.

  • Contribute to the smooth running of the department.

  • Have practical skills to support work within the food and textiles department.

  • Be able to join the team with students on educational visits.


We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Possesses the relevant experience/skills/experience needed

  • Desirable if you have a catering or food science background

  • Is self-motivated and has ability to work independently

  • Enjoys working with 11-18 year old students

  • Is a good team player

  • Is willing to learn

  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

  • Can use ICT and support others with their skills.
