What skills and experience we're looking for

The EAL Practitioner / Teacher will play a crucial role in collaborating with teachers to build and maintain a successful EAL Program that supports students with English language needs and prepares EAL students for accessing the curriculum. We are looking to appoint a practitioner / teacher with the experience and ability to plan and prepare lessons and monitor and report on pupil progress. In addition to this, the successful applicant will deliver on a ‘language rich’ action plan which promotes and celebrates our diverse school community.

Applications will also be considered from an unqualified practitioner who can demonstrate passion, enthusiasm and the willingness to learn to ensure the needs of our EAL students are fully met.

Candidates with experience may be offered the role as the EAL Coordinator.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • the ability to enthuse students with a love of learning and be a secure practitioner / teacher in the classroom
  • have excellent interpersonal skills with pupils and adults in and out of the classroom
  • develop and maintain strong relationships with students who have EAL
  • be able to help lead and develop our strong team to continue to build an enthusiastic and thriving department.
  • a commitment to, and passion for, maintaining and developing high standards of achievement for learners of all abilities across all Key stages.
  • ability to think strategically and inspire and promote high expectations to raise standards further
  • to help monitor quality assurance within the Department, including lesson observation, work scrutiny, student voice and learning walks
  • to use assessment effectively to track progress throughout KS3, 4 and 5
  • commitment to our ethos of high expectations and no excuses with the belief that every child can succeed
  • the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of students
  • committed to promoting and leading on extra-curricular trips and activities
