Education Welfare Officer job summary

W e seek a suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic person who is committed to working with families and removing barriers to education, ensuring all young people across Bridlington receive their educational entitlement and attend school.

Bridlington School

Bridlington is a Local Authority school with approximately 1000 students on role across KS3-5. Our vision is to be an outstanding and inclusive educational community where students love learning, are happy, confident, excited by achievement and recognised for their success. Bridlington School remains a Good school following an Ofsted inspection in April 2023.

The Role

As the Education Welfare Officer for Bridlington School you will take a lead in the strategic aim of improving attendance at Bridlington School. You will design and maintain a robust system for tracking attendance and communicate with relevant third parties in response to continually changing government guidance and legislation. It will require clear and accurate reporting, ensuring compliance with legislation and appropriate reporting to Governors.

The Team

At Bridlington School you will be part of a large Attendance and Pastoral team whose priority is safeguarding young people.

About You

You will have current knowledge of attendance legislation and best practice and understand the context of Bridlington as a coastal town. You will have the confidence to meet with families and discuss barriers to attending school, targeting persistent absenteeism.

The successful applicant will have a confident manner and ability to build relationships with families as well as challenging young people. In line with the demands of the role:

  • You must be able to conduct interviews with families
  • Be able to write clear and accurate reports
  • Have a thorough understanding of Legislation surrounding Attendance at School
  • Be able to attend home visits assessing social, emotional and educational needs
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to work on own initiative

What we can offer you

It is an exciting time to join Bridlington School as we continue to strengthen relationships with other education providers including Primary Feeder Schools. This role is a prime example of our commitment to the young people and families of Bridlington; recognising joint working provides the best opportunities and resources for everyone.

The school reserve the right to appoint before the application deadline.
