What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a highly effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills to provide strong education welfare support across our Trust. The Education Welfare Officer will be responsible for the operation and delivery of the Trust’s in-house attendance strategies, working closely with families and school leaders to improve student engagement and raise attendance levels.

The successful candidate will be a highly skilled specialist practitioner with expertise in removing barriers to education through targeted family casework and statutory intervention. You will have the knowledge and experience to lead on raising attendance levels for persistent and severely absent pupils, using a nurturing, “Safeguarding First” approach and demonstrating the Trust’s mindset of Unconditional Positive Regard.

What the school offers its staff

The Collegiate Trust is a family of 9 schools, primary and secondary, located in the Croydon and Crawley areas, educating children and young people from 3-19 years of age with a clear vision to deliver exceptional education for all. The Central Team is mainly based at the founding school of the Trust, Riddlesdown Collegiate: a large, outstanding (OFSTED, March 2023) secondary school in Croydon with a longstanding reputation for high standards and an exceptional education.

We care about our staff’s health and wellbeing and offer a number of benefits that can be found on our website at Benefits of Working with TCT | The Collegiate Trust. We continually strive to improve our employee experience, ensuring staff wellbeing is at the forefront of our decision making. We offer generous holiday and salary opportunities and are dedicated to ensuring professional development opportunities for all our staff.

For this role, we are able to offer:

  • Part-time and full-time opportunities

  • Flexible working patterns, including the potential to increase hours over time

  • Term-time plus 2 weeks contracts, supporting a strong work-life balance

  • Opportunities for administrative and planning tasks to be completed remotely, where appropriate

  • A supportive approach to managing workload, including caseload allocation across a Trust team

  • Opportunities to develop within the role, including progression and increased responsibility over time

Due to the nature of the role, there is an expectation that Education Welfare Officers will be based in schools and communities, including undertaking home visits and attending meetings in person.

We are happy to discuss individual circumstances and flexible working arrangements as part of the recruitment process.
