Do you believe you can make a difference in the lives of children?
If so, Romsey School invites you to join our dedicated Learning Support Department as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA). This is a rewarding opportunity to support the emotional well-being and development of our students, helping them thrive both academically and personally.

About Us

At Romsey School, our ethos is Aspire, Care and Include. We are committed to nurturing confident, independent, and resilient learners. We believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, and supported—and emotional well-being is at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

As an ELSA, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. Working closely with the SEN team, you will:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions on topics such as friendships, anxiety, anger management, and exam stress.
  • Support pupils in understanding and regulating their emotions.
  • Collaborate with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Support Plans.
  • Provide mentoring and pastoral support to vulnerable pupils.
  • Help pupils reintegrate after absence.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an inspirational, empathetic, and proactive individual who:

  • Is passionate about mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Can build strong, positive relationships with pupils and adults.
  • Demonstrates resilience, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusion.
  • Holds GCSEs (Grade C+ or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Has (or is willing to train for) an ELSA qualification.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with children with SEN.
  • Understanding of support strategies.
  • Ability to create and monitor individual support plans.
  • A team player with a positive, reflective attitude.

We Offer:

  • Access to high-quality CPD and professional learning, including The National College and our in-house Research Lead Team.
  • A caring and supportive staff environment.
  • Membership in staff-led groups such as:
    • Staff Wellbeing
    • Student Leadership
    • Extracurricular Clubs (including DofE, sports, and international trips to Kenya, Spain, Austria, and more)
  • Staff benefits including:
    • Generous pension contributions
    • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
    • Cycle to work scheme
    • Flu jabs and eye care vouchers
    • Discounted lunches from our excellent in-house kitchen
    • On-site, free staff parking
    • Discounted childcare at our on-site nursery, Little Sunlights

    Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of young people. You’ll be part of a supportive, dynamic team that values well-being, collaboration, and professional growth. Your work will help shape the future of our students—empowering them to succeed in school and beyond.
