What skills and experience we're looking for
Teacher - Emergent Pathway
This is a full time permanent position to commence 1st September 2024
Salary MPS/UPS plus SEN 1
We are looking to appoint an outstanding practitioner to join our wonderful staff team at Ravenscliffe High School. The role will be mainly teaching in our Emergent Pathway team along with a small amount of general teaching in different hubs across school. In terms of age-related learning, these students are operating around 6 months to 3 years but with a curriculum appropriate to young people aged between 11 to 19 years old.
The emergent students have a range of need with many of the students using alternative forms of communication such as visual aids, AAC, and BSL. They also can experience sensory processing difficulties and some can occasionally display challenging behaviours. This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to develop creative learning opportunities for pupils with varied and complex needs. Learning opportunities for the students should be highly motivating, related to engaging and exploring experiences and be highly personalised to individual needs.
The successful candidate will also have responsibility for a mixed ability pastoral group.
What the school offers its staff
We wish to appoint someone with an attitude that supports the school’s ethos as a principle requirement:

- is able to effectively manage a variety of social, emotional and behavioural responses
- is passionate about supporting students learning, well-being and safety
- is able to show a real commitment to working as part of a team to meet the individual needs of the students
We would be able to offer:
- a great learning environment for students with a strong community ethos
- a school where staff are valued and treated with respect
- a hardworking, committed and dedicated staff team who strive to gain the best outcomes for all our students
- an inclusive community that respects others, champions individuality and celebrates all achievements.

Ravenscliffe High School is an innovative and ambitious generic 11-19 specialist school in Halifax. It is Calderdale’s only maintained secondary specialist school, catering for the needs of over 250 students with a range of additional needs including moderate, severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties. Students may also have autism, speech, language and communication needs, physical/medical difficulties, sensory impairments, and SEMH needs.
The school has an outstanding reputation locally and beyond and has consistently been judged by Ofsted, most recently in October 2022, as an outstanding Special School. Student numbers have increased significantly in recent years from 134 students in 2014 to the current 256 on role. This growth is predicted to continue in future years. This expansion in numbers resulted in Ravenscliffe becoming a two-site school from September 2018. Further expansion has recently taken place at the main site with the addition of a five-classroom annex in September 2021.
The school has the highest aspirations for its students. It is focused on its simple aim of recognising and responding to their individual needs and providing them with a relevant and challenging curriculum whilst working closely with parents and carers. This is all within a safe, happy, stimulating and supportive environment built on positive relationships, good communication, recognising and celebrating achievement and mutual support. At the school’s heart is a partnership between an experienced and committed SLT, a top-quality staff team with genuine expertise in the field of SEND and its many stakeholders.
This is an exciting time for the school as it continues to develop and enhance all aspects of its provision. If you share this determination and ambition, it offers an outstanding opportunity to develop in a forward thinking and outward looking school.
