What skills and experience we're looking for

A rare opportunity has arisen for us to appoint an exceptional classroom practitioner as a Curriculum Leader in English to help drive our ambition to go beyond obtaining consistently exceptional outcomes in English and English Literature across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. The successful candidate will be joining a fully staffed, experienced and ambitious English, Film and Media Team, who are dedicated to achieving the very best for our students.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for the subject, be able to inspire our students’ love of learning, and have a history of raising attainment. This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious professional, who wants to work in an environment which is both supportive and incredibly ambitious. Ultimately, this is a job for a professional who is driven by the desire to transform life chances through exceptional learning.

The first and most significant aspect of the role will be in teaching consistently exceptional lessons to ensure students make exceptional progress, from KS3 to KS5, and this is the first priority for any teacher and leader in the school, from the Headteacher to a trainee teacher. The successful candidate will also help lead the development of our curriculum, refining the core and procedural knowledge in each aspect of teaching English. This work will support the teaching of English across the Trust. The English Team work collaboratively to ensure the very best teaching across every classroom, and the ideal candidate will support the Director and Deputy Directors of English in ensuring this culture continues to flourish. The role will include supporting the Team with honing and perfecting their craft, because at Debden it is an expectation for every teacher, no matter how experienced or effective, to continually seek to improve their practice.

What the school offers its staff

There will also be an opportunity for the post holder to support with teaching and learning throughout the school, which is facilitated through a weekly two-hour CPD provision, an open-door culture of daily drop-ins using StepLab, and - most importantly - a culture of teaching and learning conversations being the norm throughout the school.

We are part of a family of schools within the Kemnal Academies Trust. We provide exceptional career progression for staff, which leads to our Middle and Senior Leadership teams being composed of many teachers who began their career with us. We lead the Essex hub of the TKAT SCITT.
