English Teacher job summary

We require from December 2026 a talented teacher of English. We offer GCSE AQA English Language and English Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills.

Please come for a visit and see for yourself what a brilliant place and with awesome staff at UTC is to work. We welcome applications from ECTs as well as experienced teachers.

This role is about more than delivering an excellent English curriculum. It is about ensuring that every student can communicate effectively, think critically, and engage confidently with the world around them. You will champion literacy across the UTC, promote reading for pleasure, and work alongside talented colleagues to create an environment where young people can flourish academically, personally, and professionally.

Working within our unique employer-led setting, you will help students understand the importance of effective communication in engineering, healthcare, and the wider world of work. Through high-quality teaching and a passion for English, you will empower young people to achieve their potential, broaden their aspirations, and develop the skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

We are looking for a passionate, ambitious, and inspiring teacher who shares our belief that education opens doors and who is committed to helping every student realise their potential and achieve their ambitions. If you are driven by the opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's futures, we would love to hear from you.

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to work in a UTC where all staff are viewed as part of the family.

  • Somewhere where leaders look after you as well as encourage you to pursue your aspirations and goals.

  • A UTC where the classroom and the learning experience for young people is the centre of everything that we do.

  • A UTC with a healthy view of the work life balance needed to be a great teacher.

  • Shared schemes of learning and pre-planned resources support workload reduction.

  • A sensible and balanced approach to marking and feedback in order to further reduce workload.

  • A clear behaviour policy which supports you to be able to teach with enthusiasm and freedom to a receptive audience.

  • Opportunities to share your practice and learn from others across the trust and the teaching UTC alliance.

Please visit our UTC website- www.southdevonutc.org.uk. If you have any further questions please contact Ms Wastell, PA to the Headteacher via email - Julie.wastell@southdevonutc.org.uk
