Executive Principal job summary

Executive Principals, Secondary (Trustwide)

Are you a values driven school leader?

As a Trust, we believe in growing together as a family. Underpinned by our values of Kindness, Respect and Teamwork, our schools are places where young people can grow and excel, and where colleagues work together to build a culture of excellence.

We are looking for Executive Principals to join our Trust and become associate members of our Executive Team.

Lead improvement across a group of very different schools

Heartwood Learning Trust is a close-knit family of fourteen schools in Hull, York and across North Yorkshire. Our six secondary schools and two alternative provision academies could hardly be more varied: Church schools and community schools, large and small, serving very different communities in and around York, Hull, Scarborough and Selby.

The role

You will lead improvement across our secondary schools and alternative provision academies, working closely with their Principals: supporting them, challenging them and helping them to lead their schools well. Your work could focus on one school or a cluster, such as our schools in Scarborough/York or our alternative provision academies. You will start where improvement is most needed and, in time, help our stronger schools become even better. As an associate member of the Executive Team, your priorities will be to:

  • Raise standards of education and outcomes, starting with the schools that need it most

  • Develop the leadership capacity of Principals and their senior teams, so that improvement lasts

  • Help shape and deliver the Trust’s strategy for the next five to ten years, including its approach to inclusion and SEND

About you

You will be an experienced headteacher or principal, with a successful track record of school improvement, ready to take the next step. This role is a chance to bring everything you have learned to a wide and varied group of schools, and to make a difference for many more young people. It will suit a flexible and committed team player who relishes new challenges and wants to keep learning. We are looking for a resilient leader and a great people person, who believes, as we do, that kindness and constructive challenge go hand in hand. The role involves working in York, Hull, Scarborough and Selby, and travelling between them.

Whether you are already with us or joining us

We warmly welcome applications from Principals already leading schools in our Trust, as well as from leaders elsewhere. If you lead one of our schools now, you already know our schools, our ways of working and our values. If you are joining us from outside, you will bring a fresh perspective, and we will help you get to know our schools quickly. All applications will be considered on the same basis.

  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme

  • Occupational health support

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • A relocation package may be applicable for candidates moving into the regions we serve from other areas of England.

About Heartwood Learning Trust

Type
Multi-academy trust

Thank you for showing an interest in joining our community of schools at Hope Sentamu Learning Trust.

Our vision is really very simple. We aspire to provide a place children and young people can thrive - life in all its fullness, a place to thrive. Our values are Kindness, Respect and Teamwork.

Here are our commitments:
A respectful and inclusive community, with a culture of thankfulness and appreciation, where we celebrate equality and diversity.
High quality first teaching across all of our schools, in every learning session, without exception.
A broad and balanced educational offer which develops all pupils academically, practically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, leading to great outcomes.
Resilient, sustainable and ethical leadership at all levels of the organisation.

Our Trust comprises of primary and secondary schools as well as alternative provisions. We are a community of fourteen schools, located across York, Hull and North Yorkshire. Our schools are supported by a central operations team and a central school improvement team.

Each one of our schools has its own distinctive character, identity and strengths which it brings to the table so that we all benefit from each other. Collaboration is at the heart of the way that we work across the Trust as every school has something to give and every school needs some help. This resonates with our Trust vision and values.

We are a new Trust, following a recent merger between Hope Learning Trust and Sentamu Academy Learning Trust in September 2021, so this is a very exciting time in our development. I am a big believer in building strong foundations so that we can concentrate on providing the best possible experiences and provision for the children and young people. It makes sense for us to do some things consistently so that we can do the basics really well. Colleagues from across the Trust have the opportunity to get involved in the development of Trust strategy so that our consistent ways of working and areas that we have alignment are developed at grass roots level. We see the alignment of key strategies across the Trust as an ever growing strength and way forward. This approach will get stronger and stronger as we develop and provides excellent career development opportunities for colleagues in all roles at all levels. Our school leaders play an important role in promoting a positive and collaborative culture across the Trust whilst delivering on the key Trust strategies within their schools.
