What skills and experience we're looking for
Key Responsibilities:
- Support in the implementation of high quality, interactive and memorable learning experiences for the children in our school
- Complement the work of the class teacher by providing in-class and small group learning support to enable pupils to achieve their potential
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher to adapt and deliver the curriculum to meet children’s needs
- Play a key role in delivering targeted interventions to pupils who need extra help to meet their academic targets, focusing on key subjects such as literacy and numeracy. This role will involve working 1:1 and in small groups, helping to build confidence, reinforce learning, and track progress.
- Supporting children with SEND in both individual and group settings
- Support vulnerable children who have SEMH and complex additional needs as part of our nurture provision
- Provide a positive, nurturing, and inclusive environment where all children feel valued and supported
- Encourage and promote positive behaviour, social skills, and self-esteem
- Monitor children’s progress and contributing to the development of personalised learning plans
- Be an active part of the school’s wider team, working with other staff and external agencies to support children’s development
Requirements:
- Solid understanding of current practices in supporting children's learning within a school setting, as well as behaviour management strategies
- Knowledge in key areas such as Literacy, Numeracy, and Science
- NVQ 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent
- Good level of general education - English and Maths GCSE passes are essential
Ideal Candidate:
- This role would suit experienced Teaching Assistants from primary/secondary/specialist education or somebody experienced in pre-school/youth work from a different setting wanting to transfer their skills
- Experience of supporting children with SEND (either through training or previous experience) is desirable.
In addition to fulfilling the Person Specification, the successful candidate will:
- Be an ambitious and highly skilled classroom practitioner with a strong child-centered approach and a genuine passion for working with children
- Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in order to respond to the dynamic needs of our students
- Have positive, proactive attitude, with the ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
- Be committed to their own professional learning
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to form positive relationships and work collaboratively with staff, children, and families.
- Have a commitment to the values of inclusion, respect, and empathy
