Extended Care Manager - Level 3 EYFS job summary

Are you an organised childcare or playwork professional seeking a leadership role where you can make a daily impact? At Sandhills Community Primary School, we are seeking an Extended Care Manager to lead our out-of-school provision, maintaining a safe, welcoming space where pupils can relax, socialise, and play.

Why This Role Matters

You will oversee the day-to-day organisation, safety, and play activities for our pupils outside normal school hours. Leading a dedicated team, you will ensure our provision helps children build positive relationships, practise social skills, and feel secure.

What You’ll Bring
  • Leadership & Supervision: Experience in supervising staff or volunteers, ensuring clear direction and effective deployment.
  • Childcare & Playwork Practice: Sound working knowledge of childcare standards, and healthy eating guidelines.
  • Operational Administration: Competence in day-to-day administration, record-keeping, and resource purchasing within budget.
  • Safeguarding Rigour: A thorough understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures, maintaining safe and hygienic surroundings at all times.
  • Effective Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with parents, carers, school staff, and local agencies.
The "Why Us" Difference
  • A Values-Led Ethos: Our school values—Respect, Relationships, Responsibility, and Resilience—guide our staff and pupils every day.
  • Professional Agency: You will have the autonomy to organise activities, adapt play spaces, and lead your team in a way that best serves our pupils.
  • A Supportive Community: Work in an environment where staff contributions are recognised, valued, and celebrated.
The RLT Connection

Sandhills Community Primary School is part of the River Learning Trust. As part of our wider team, you receive:

Professional Security: Access to a secure, government-backed pension scheme (LGPS) and recognition of continuous public sector service.

Shared Growth: Funded opportunities for continuous professional development and role-specific training[cite: 1, 2].

The Whole Person: 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme support and a workplace culture that respects workload and personal wellbeing.

Education has the power to change lives, communities and society for the better. At RLT we believe that we can achieve more for our pupils, trainees, staff and communities by working together rather than alone. Schools in RLT are united by a common belief in the benefits of working together, and by our commitment to shared principles.

OUR VISION is for our schools and SCITT to improve rapidly, continuously and sustainably: to be better faster together.

OUR ‘WHY?’ is that children and young people ‘only get one go’ in school and therefore as part of RLT we aim to ensure the best possible ‘go’ for our pupils.

OUR ‘HOW?’ is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff. For more information on what it is like to work for the Trust, and the benefits you could access, please see our “Working in RLT” guide.
