External and Internal Exam Invigilator job summary

External and Internal Exam Invigilator

Casual hours during examination periods (November, December, May and June) | Term time | Monday to Friday

NJC Support Staff Grade 4, SCP 6 | £13.92 per hour

Are you reliable, organised and calm under pressure? Do you have excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for reliable and committed External and Internal Exam Invigilators to join our examinations team and help ensure that our internal and external examinations run smoothly and efficiently.

Working as part of a team of invigilators, you will supervise students undertaking examinations in accordance with school and Exam Board requirements. You will help to create the calm, professional and well-organised environment students need to perform at their best.

A day in your role could see you:

  • Helping to prepare for the smooth and efficient running of examinations.
  • Welcoming candidates into the examination room and helping them find their allocated seats.
  • Distributing question papers, answer booklets and other examination materials.
  • Supervising candidates quietly and unobtrusively throughout examinations.
  • Ensuring examination regulations relating to conduct and communication are followed.
  • Responding appropriately to candidates' queries in line with examination regulations.
  • Reporting any behaviour concerns or breaches of examination regulations promptly.
  • Escorting and supervising candidates who need to leave the examination room in an emergency.
  • Collecting examination papers and materials carefully and in the correct order at the end of each examination.

  • What we're looking for

You'll be reliable, punctual and responsible, with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work. You'll be confident following instructions, procedures and regulations accurately and consistently, while remaining calm, observant and vigilant for sustained periods.

You'll work effectively as part of a team while also being comfortable working independently and maintaining a professional and unobtrusive manner when supervising students. You'll also need to be flexible during examination periods to meet the operational needs of the school.

Previous experience as an examination invigilator, working within a school or educational setting, or working with young people would be helpful, but isn't essential. An awareness of examination procedures and regulations would also be advantageous.

Most importantly, we're looking for calm, dependable and diligent people who understand the stress’ students undergo during examinations and the importance of creating a calm, fair and well-organised examination environment.

If you're organised, attentive and looking for a flexible role where you can make an important contribution to school life, we'd love to hear from you.

    Closing date: Friday 2nd October

    Interviews: Friday 9th October
