EYFS Practitioner job summary

The purpose of this post is to work with our Nursery practitioners to support the education and social development of our children by working with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of the Nursery Lead, and may be responsible for some learning activities within the overall teaching plan with access to support and guidance as required.

Hours of Work: Variable contract 26-32.5 hours per week,Monday - Friday, Term Time Only, including training days (39 Weeks Per Year)

This post will initially start on 26 hours per week, with the requirement to increase to 32.5 hours per week, dependent on class numbers.

Broomfield Primary School is on the edge of the beautiful market town of Northallerton. We are a one form entry school, currently with 203 children. We are a welcoming, inclusive school, with strong parental partnerships and a supportive school staff team. Together, we put our children at the heart of all we do, helping every child achieve their full potential. We became an Academy in November 2024, joining the Areté Learning Trust and work closely with the other schools in the Trust.

We have an exciting opportunity, due to the development of a new school-led preschool for 2-4 year olds which opens in September 2025. We are looking for an experienced preschool assistant to join our school team, to work closely with the preschool leader and with our Reception staff, sharing in the care and development of our youngest children. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic and energetic, keen to be part of this new journey.

This is a variable contract due to waiting on confirmation of numbers of children with this being a new venture. We are expecting this to quickly move to the 32.5 hours per week.

The successful candidates will:

  • Have an understanding of how to enable young children to learn, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities
  • Be able to work as a member of a team to support children and their families
  • Have an excitement and proactive, positive approach to supporting children’s learning and development
  • Have a commitment to providing the right support to the most vulnerable children by contributing to support plans
  • Have high aspirations both for themselves and our children
  • Have a passion for learning
  • Be proactive and dependable
  • Have strong interpersonal skill and a positive outlook
  • Have experience of working in EYFS and have a good understanding of child development
