EYFS Teacher job summary

Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, together with Roche Community Primary School, are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated and organised Reception Class Teacher to join our thriving school. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting difference to children's first experiences of school and to help lay the foundations for a lifelong love of learning. Initially offered as a fixed-term contract until 31 August 2027, this role has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate, reflecting the school's continued growth and future development plans.
Nestled beneath the iconic Roche Rock in the heart of Clay Country, Roche School offers a unique and inspiring setting for learning. We are extremely fortunate to benefit from a spacious and well-resourced Reception classroom alongside a vast outdoor learning environment, carefully designed to support children's curiosity, development and independence. These exceptional facilities, combined with our ambitious EYFS curriculum and dedicated team, provide the perfect opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to help shape children's earliest educational experiences.
At Roche School, we share an ethos that promotes high standards of academic achievement alongside a broad, stimulating and hands-on curriculum. Our aim is to foster independent, resilient and curious learners who are equipped to make a positive contribution to both their local community and the wider world.
The successful candidate will play a key role in building and maintaining strong relationships with local nurseries, pre-schools and families, ensuring that every child experiences a smooth and positive transition into school. They will work collaboratively with parents, carers, our SENDCo and early years professionals to develop a deep understanding of each child's individual needs, interests and starting points.
They will also work closely with Key Stage 1 colleagues to ensure a seamless transition from Reception into Year 1, providing continuity in children's learning, development and wellbeing. Through high-quality provision, both indoors and outdoors, they will create a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn, enabling them to make excellent progress and develop a lifelong love of learning.
About You:
You will be a passionate and nurturing practitioner with a genuine commitment to giving every child the very best start to their education. With a child-centred approach, you will create an engaging, inclusive and stimulating learning environment that inspires curiosity, independence and a love of learning. You will have a strong understanding of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage and be skilled in providing high-quality learning opportunities through a balance of direct teaching as well as purposeful continuous provision both indoors and outdoors.
Ideally, you will have experience and training within EYFS and be committed to ensuring that every child feels safe, valued and able to thrive. You will share our vision and values, have high expectations for all learners from day one and work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and carers to support children's learning, wellbeing and development. Above all, you will bring enthusiasm, dedication and a desire to make a positive contribution to our welcoming school community.
Benefits of Working with Us:
We are incredibly proud of our EYFS provision at Roche School, including our clear vision, ambitious curriculum and dedicated team. The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced EYFS Lead, who is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team and has successfully led the phase for the past seven years.
Our Reception curriculum, planning and daily routines are well established, providing a strong foundation for a new teacher to build upon. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is eager to bring fresh ideas, creativity and enthusiasm, helping to further enhance an already thriving Early Years environment where children flourish both academically and personally.
As a leading Academy Trust, we are able to offer our staff a range of continued professional development opportunities alongside family friendly policies and access to the Local Government/Teachers Pension Schemes. More on our benefits can be found here.

At Roche we believe that children have a right to a safe, happy, varied and challenging learning experience. Every individual child matters and all children have abilities and potential which must be realised. Within this context, commitment, self-responsibility, honesty and respect are the key personal qualities which we value from all members of our school community and that we feel are essential to success in later life.

These qualities are embodied in our school rules;

Show good manners at all times
Follow instructions with thought and care
Care for everyone and everything
As a school we feel that the drive for progress is everything. We acknowledge and reward effort and consistently encourage children and ourselves to achieve more and look forward to the next challenge.

We promote reading throughout our curriculum and ensure that the development of reading and the opportunity to engage with and enjoy reading is prioritised.

Our Curriculum delivers the scope of the national Curriculum but also reflects our school context. We utilise opportunities to develop core skills of reading and writing throughout curriculum subjects.

Our relentless drive to raise standards in English and maths are at the heart of our approach to teaching and learning, reflecting the needs of our children in preparation for the future.

We endeavour to raise children’s understanding of Wellbeing. We want children to understand the importance of physical and mental good health, how they can achieve and maintain this themselves and look after others. We link learning in PSHE with PE and promote our 5 ways to wellbeing through assemblies and activities throughout school.

All children in school take part in PE every day. This forms part of their understanding of their own physical and mental health and well being. We pride ourselves on being an active school!

We believe in working together to reach our goals.
