This hands-on role involves helping to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

As part of a small, supportive team based at Park Lane, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that teaching and learning activities run smoothly. You will assist in managing building operations and systems, while supporting the Facilities Supervisor in the day-to-day running of the site.

The Campus Facilities team acts as a vital link between curriculum delivery and the wider Estates department, coordinating both planned and reactive maintenance activities. The team ensures that work is scheduled appropriately, carried out in consultation with relevant stakeholders, and delivered in line with College procedures.

What You Will Do

  • Carry out minor maintenance tasks across the site, including basic repairs, cleaning, waste management, recycling, grounds maintenance (e.g. grass cutting, litter picking, planting), and seasonal duties like snow clearing following appropriate training and safety procedures.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and musical instruments as needed to support classes, events, exams, meetings, and site moves, ensuring rooms are set up according to agreed plans.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Estates team to deliver support services that ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Engage positively with students to ensure they feel welcome and safe on campus, while promoting understanding of expected standards of behaviour and using restorative approaches when intervention is needed.
  • Carry out security duties as required, including general guarding, patrolling, access control, and CCTV system monitoring (in accordance with policy and legislation)
  • Liaise with and support on-site contractors and visitors to site ensuring compliance

About You

  • Previous experience in a customer service role, with responsibilities that included opening and securing buildings, as well as general building security.
  • You should have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team, and remain focused on tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • A GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths is required
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Experience in basic maintenance or DIY tasks—such as plumbing, joinery, or decorating would be a strong advantage.
  • Above all, you should be committed to providing outstanding customer service to students, staff, and all other users of the campus.
