Facilities Officer job summary

Responsibilities and duties:

Responsibility for the routine and emergency opening and closing of school premises and grounds.

Carry out security and evacuation procedures for school buildings and grounds in accordance with both United Learning and School policies.

To have good working knowledge of relevant current legislation and good practice, reporting any concerns to the Premises Manager.

Under the direction of and to support the Premises Manager ensure that all Health & Safety regulations are strictly adhered to, ensuring the safety of all users of the site.

Carry out necessary duties where alarm systems are installed.

Carry out minibus safety checks and arrange maintenance and repairs in line with policies.

Ensure that contractors have access to the site during the opening hours of the school, and on occasion out of hours, as necessary.

Take out of use caretakers and cleaning equipment (used by caretaker) known to be faulty and report the need for repair.

Operate heating and hot water plant in accordance with agreed procedures and carry out frost precautions.

Accept delivery of stores, materials and other goods and convey to appropriate storage areas and departments.

Maintain adequate supplies of caretaking requirements and keep records. Work with Finance Team regarding ordering resources and equipment.

Move furniture and equipment as required including setting up the main hall for all school activities and events.

Replace light source. Clean fittings, shades and diffusers and replace where necessary.

Carry out duties in respect of lettings (i.e., prepare and open premises out of core hours as necessary, attend to janitorial and security requirements, secure and close the building. Carry out cleaning following out of school hours’ usage).

Carry out other such duties as may be necessary from time to time in accordance with local practice or within the reasonable requirements of school management.

Grounds Maintenance:

To ensure that the maintenance of the school building and grounds is undertaken and provide the necessary information of completion to the Premises Manager.

Keep all hard surface free of moss and weeds.

Disinfect and regularly clean gullies and drains at surface level.

Collect litter, empty and collect litter from outside bins and convey to nominated collection of disposal point ensuring GDPR/personal data is dealt with securely in an appropriate manner.

Make safe any hazards and ensure that the area is cordoned off.

Where possible, ensure access to school premises in case of snow, flooding or other emergency situations.

Tending, planting and cultivating the gardens.

Overseeing the pond care.

Treatment and preparation of the field.
