About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Facilities Operative to join our team. This vital role ensures our school is safe, clean, secure, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors. You will work closely with the Senior Site Supervisor to maintain the premises, grounds, and facilities to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance: Carry out day-to-day repairs, decoration, improvement works, and support statutory compliance checks (e.g. fire safety, legionella).
  • Security: Open and close the school at set times, ensure site security, and respond to alarm callouts when necessary.
  • Cleaning & Presentation: Keep outdoor areas, pathways, playgrounds, and fields clean and safe; support with waste collection, toilet supplies, dining room cleanliness, and removal of graffiti/chewing gum.
  • Grounds & Vehicles: Assist with general grounds maintenance and support with school vehicle checks, refuelling, and occasional minibus driving (training provided).
  • Logistics (Portage): Receive deliveries, move and set up equipment for events/exams, manage waste disposal, and assist visitors/contractors.
  • Window Cleaning: Undertake certain window cleaning tasks within safety guidelines.

  • Practical skills in maintenance, cleaning, and repair.
  • A proactive and problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to follow health & safety procedures and identify potential hazards.
  • Flexibility to support school events and respond to emergencies.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
