Fixed Term Class Teacher with TLR2 for Leading Early Years and Key Stage 1 job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join our team, taking on a leadership role across Early Years and Key Stage 1. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to shape the learning journey of our youngest pupils and lead colleagues in delivering outstanding teaching and learning. The post is on a fixed term basis until December 26 ( or earlier) to cover Maternity leave.
Cherry Oak School is a Maintained Primary (4-11years) Special School for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism, Cognition & Learning difficulties and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
We are part of a Federation with Victoria School and Victoria College, which enables us to work collaboratively and share resources. Our bespoke curriculum and assessment frameworks support pupils to make progress in key areas of their learning.
The TLR role for leading Early Years and Key Stage 1 involves driving high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil progress across the phase. The post holder will be accountable for attainment and outcomes, ensuring lessons build on prior knowledge and meet the diverse needs of pupils. They will lead colleagues in delivering a creative and engaging curriculum, promote effective use of assessment to secure progress, and establish consistent approaches to feedback and moderation. A key part of the role is supporting staff to manage behaviour positively, fostering a safe and stimulating learning environment. In addition, the leader will oversee professional development within the team, deploy support staff effectively, and maintain strong communication with parents and carers. They will also contribute to the wider ethos of the Federation and ensure smooth transitions between phases through collaborative working.

Cherry Oak School is a primary school for children with special education needs (SEN). All pupils have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The school has specialist provision for children with severe cognition and learning difficulties and those with Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties. Approximately half of the pupils are diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. With capacity for 110 pupils, Cherry Oak School caters for pupils from Birmingham and beyond.
