Food Technician

(non - teaching position)

35 hours per week (Term Time Only)

Fixed Term for one year with a view to the role being made permanent.

Scale: Sc6 - pt 18 - 20depending upon experience

Actual Salary: £32,370.82 to £33,344.30

Role Overview

Arts & Media School Islington is seeking a dedicated Food Technician to join our vibrant department. You will provide vital technical support to teaching staff and students, ensuring a safe, organized, and inspiring environment for Food Preparation and Nutrition lessons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare practical resources. Measure ingredients, organize equipment, and set up work stations before lessons.
  • Maintain safety standards. Clean classrooms, wash textiles, and manage deep-cleaning schedules for cookers and equipment.
  • Manage kitchen inventory. Monitor stock levels, order fresh ingredients weekly, and manage deliveries within budget.
  • Perform safety checks. Conduct routine temperature logs for fridges/freezers and report maintenance issues.
  • Assist during lessons. Provide hands-on technical support to students during practical exams and classes.
  • Enforce health regulations. Maintain strict Food Hygiene and COSHH standards across all food spaces.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Food safety certificate. Level 2 Food Safety in Catering (or equivalent) is essential.
  • School environment experience. Previous experience working with young people in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage tight turnarounds between practical lessons.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to collaborate with teachers and build positive relationships with students.
  • Basic IT literacy. Competence in managing online grocery orders and inventory spreadsheets.
