Food Technician job summary

We are seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic and proactive Food Technician to support our successful Design and Technology Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for food, practical learning and supporting young people. Working closely with the Head of Design and Technology and teaching staff, you will play a key role in preparing resources for practical lessons, maintaining specialist equipment and ensuring the safe and effective operation of our food technology facilities.

The successful candidate will be an essential part of the department, helping to create an engaging learning environment where students can develop practical skills, creativity and confidence.

About the Role

As Food Technician, you will provide technical and practical support to teachers and students across the Food Technology curriculum. You will be responsible for preparing ingredients and equipment for lessons, maintaining high standards of food hygiene and health and safety, and supporting the delivery of practical learning activities.

You will also oversee the management of resources, maintain stock levels, coordinate orders and support staff and students with the safe use of specialist equipment.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Prepare ingredients, equipment and materials for practical Food Technology lessons.
  • Set up and clear away practical teaching activities.
  • Provide technical advice and support to staff and students.
  • Assist with practical demonstrations and specialist classroom activities where appropriate.
  • Ensure equipment and appliances are maintained, serviced and used safely.
  • Monitor food hygiene standards and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Manage stock levels and submit orders for consumable and non-consumable resources.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, resources and expenditure.
  • Ensure safe storage of food ingredients, materials and equipment.
  • Provide guidance on health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
  • Support the department in identifying and sourcing new resources and equipment.
  • Keep preparation and storage areas organised, safe and fit for purpose.
