Full Time Teaching Assistant - Reception or Key Stage One job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who is organised, nurturing, and creative, with a genuine love of working with young children. The successful candidate will be committed to a play-centred approach to learning and passionate about supporting every child to reach their full potential. The role will include supporting the children to learn through their play in the classroom, delivering small group activities, delivering planned interventions and supporting the teacher to set up an inspiring learning environment.

You will be kind and friendly, a positive team player who is able to work collaboratively as part of a whole-school community, with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of school life. We are looking for someone who is proactive, supportive, and values the importance of strong relationships with both colleagues and the local community.

A key part of this role is supporting children’s pastoral wellbeing. You will help children to develop independence in their self-care, respond sensitively to their emotional needs, and ensure they feel safe, valued, and cared for throughout the day. This may include providing comfort and reassurance when needed, as well as supporting with first aid and promoting children’s overall health and wellbeing.

The working hours for this position are 8.40am - 3.15pm four days a week (with a 30 minute lunch break) and 8.40am - 12.45pm one day a week. This vacancy is for one year fixed term in the first instance with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate. This position is either for Reception, Year One or Year Two, depending on the candidate's experience.
