Gardener job summary
Carry out planting, weeding, mulching, and the creation of new garden areas.
Care for established plants, shrubs, hedges, and trees, including pruning, feeding, pest control, and soil preparation.
Maintain planters and seasonal displays.
Keep outdoor areas, including paths, play spaces, and seating areas, clean and free from litter, weeds, and debris.
Ensure safe use, care, and maintenance of gardening tools and equipment.
Support school events and activities as required.
Assist with occasional grounds or site tasks, including sports pitch preparation.
Work safely, following school risk assessments, health and safety guidance, and safeguarding policies.
Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Site Manager, School Business Manager, or Headteacher.
Personal ProfileSound knowledge of plants and horticulture.
Practical gardening and plant husbandry skills.
Enthusiastic and proactive approach, with flexibility to adapt to the needs of the school.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, supportive team.
High standards and attention to detail.
Good physical fitness and a full, clean driving licence.
Hours of Work
8 hours per week - as a school, we are flexible in terms of when the gardening work happens.
Some flexibility may be required to support occasional school events outside these hours.
Term-time only contract
Holidays25 days per annum plus Bank Holidays, rising to 30 days per annum plus Bank Holidays after 5 years’ service.
