General Teacher - Intervention job summary

Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of six academies and one sixth form across the Tees Valley area serving a population of approximately 600 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

The Trust wishes to appoint a General Teacher to join our existing friendly team. Westlands Academy is located in Thornaby and caters for students aged 11-16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH).

This is a new temporary post (to August 2022 in the first instance) and we are looking for the right person to work alongside our current teaching staff to work on a 1:1 or small group basis in order to support the delivery of learning programmes and teaching where necessary.

The ideal candidate will:
• Work closely with staff to promote student learning, achievement and progress.
• Have experience of teaching a variety of subjects. The ability to offer English and/or mathematics from Entry Level and above would be beneficial for our students.
• Be aware of the challenges of working with pupils with SEMH.
• Have the ability to create suitable schemes of work and assess work according to exam specifications.

The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.
