Come and be part of our school as we achieve and aspire together to build a beacon of excellence across Scarborough.

Northstead Community Primary School is a large 3 form entry primary (632 on roll) with big ambitions and over the last three years we have developed an enviable reputation for teaching and learning, professional development and for the pastoral and nurture support we provide to our children and community

Being a large school means that as a staff member you can access a host of opportunities while at the same time being supported, challenged and nurtured as a professional teacher. Every child matters at Northstead and we believe that it is our job to make sure that every child’s needs are met - no matter what challenges that may bring!

Our development in terms of educational achievement and commitment to raising standards on the coast is at the forefront of our thinking – and we are a designated lead school within the Scarborough Teaching Alliance, a lead school within the Maths Hub and a school which takes risks with teaching and learning.

Our opportunity

Due to our belief that every child can succeed at Northstead, we are looking to recruit a number of passionate and dedicated colleagues to join our talented team of support staff. Our teaching assistants work across the whole school, however the posts will be based initially in KS1 and KS2. These roles will involve working one to one with children who have an identified SEND need.

We are happy to consider applications from candidates (who have recently graduated) who may be looking to train as a teacher in 2022, as well as from those with some experience of working with children and young people.

Our support staff are highly regarded and we pride ourselves on developing our support colleagues to excel and further develop their career through specialised training and career paths through to ATA, HLTA status and teacher training.

We encourage applications from candidates who have a passion for education and wish to work in a setting which offers reward and challenge and where no two days are the same.
The successful candidates must hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills.

You will:
• Have previous experience in this type of role or with children and young people in a primary setting.
• Be able to support in the delivery of high quality learning experiences for all pupils.
• Have high expectations of learning and behaviour and inspire and motivate our children
• Be supportive, nurturing and understanding
• Seek to make learning exciting and a positive experience
• Work well as part of a team
• Demonstrate good communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Be patient, think on your feet and above all else be very adaptable because of the ever changing role when working with SEND children.

This are fixed term posts starting in October 2021 and will be initially until 31st August 2022.

We can offer you:

• A school with a pastoral focus, a strong pupil voice and an aspirational outlook for our children with a commitment to Nurture UK as part of our dedication to make sure every child succeeds at Northstead.
• An opportunity to be in a school at the centre of the social mobility and raising standards programme on the coast
• Happy, enthusiastic children who enjoy learning and being part of the Northstead Community.
• A school with unique and inspiring learning environments
• An opportunity to work with an experienced and committed team who offer ongoing support and training to ensure you will be the best that you can be and be a success at Northstead.

Dear applicant,

Allow me to extend a warm welcome from the children, staff and Governors at Northstead Community Primary School.

I was delighted to be appointed Headteacher in September 2017 and while any Head will say their school is special – I truly believe Northstead is.

We are a large three form entry primary school and over the last five years we have built on our ‘good’ Ofsted inspection in 2016 and become a school where every child’s needs are met.

For any new teacher or support professional joining us you will be given the tools, support, and encouragement to thrive in our inclusive school. With 632 children on roll we believe in distributed leadership and an exciting curriculum that helps creates that sense of awe and excitement in our children – I still enjoy every day seeing the children running to school excited for the school day.

Our pastoral approach is highly regarded amongst our schools and our community who see that it is our belief that every child is special – and it is our job to bring their talents to the fore!

I hope you can see that this is an excellent time to join Northstead. If successful you will join a staff team of wonderful professionals who have ambition for our children and for themselves. I take pride in ensuring colleagues receive opportunities to develop their skills and experiences – and we have an enviable reputation for delivering high quality professional development.

I hope that you will take the time to come and see and experience for yourself the warm and welcoming atmosphere which makes our vision a reality.

Good luck with your application.

Jim Lidgley (Headteacher)
