What skills and experience we're looking for

Make every day meaningful—shape brighter futures for children with SEND

Our Opportunity

At Overdale Community Primary School, we believe every child is unique and full of potential. Our aim is to create an inclusive, nurturing, and supportive environment where all children – including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) – can thrive, feel valued, and achieve their very best.

We are looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide support for pupils with a range of needs, including communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH), and sensory or physical needs.

With support from the Class Teacher and SENCo you will adapt activities to enable our SEND pupils to access and actively participate in the KS2 curriculum, using differentiated approaches, visual supports, assistive resources and behaviour strategies appropriate to individual pupils. Your role will involve a mix of targeted interventions and learning activities on a 1:1 basis, or in small groups to support academic, social and emotional development.

You will work closely with the SENCo to implement strategies and provision outlined in pupils’ EHCPs, support plans and individual targets.

As you will be a consistent key figure for our SEND pupils, you will contribute to the monitoring, recording, and reporting of pupil progress, achievements, and any concerns, alongside the class teacher and SENCo.

Key Duties:

  • Promote inclusion by encouraging pupil independence, confidence and positive engagement in classroom learning
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour for learning and social interaction, following agreed behaviour and support plans
  • Use differentiated approaches, visual supports, assistive resources and behaviour strategies appropriate to individual pupils
  • Assist with personal care or mobility needs where required, in line with school policies and training
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, parents/carers and external professionals to support pupil outcomes
  • Maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment in line with safeguarding and school policies
  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism and positive relationships at all times

Essentials Skills:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Minimum English and Maths skills at level 2 (GCSE Grade 4/C or above)
  • Appropriate experience working with children in an education setting

What the school offers its staff

  • A supportive, cohesive community – relationships throughout the school are welcoming, kind, inclusive and thoughtful
  • A vibrant, happy school where we value everyone and have a philosophy of kindness and support for each other
  • Children who are enthusiastic about learning and apply our school logo to every day: we listen, we learn, we shine
  • A school with an exciting and attractive learning environment
  • A leadership team who welcomes fresh ideas, traditional values and a sense of teamwork
  • Well supported teachers and support professionals who are committed to driving high standards
  • An excellent working environment in a beautiful coastal setting

Overdale Community Primary School is a highly regarded and thriving primary school with 258 pupils on roll.

These are exciting times for Overdale as we recently moved into our £6 million brand new purpose-built school in September 2021. The new building is absolutely state of the art, in terms of being eco-friendly and operating a high standard of technology. The school architecture is very contemporary. The school is well designed and welcoming, light and bright; this newness gives a feeling of empowerment and responsibility.

Alongside this, we have spacious classrooms benefitting from natural light and ventilation, creating the best possible learning environment for our pupils and best possible working conditions for our staff. Outdoors, we have two football pitches, a rounders pitch and a one-mile running track, along with an environmental area and quiet place with logs and other features.

We use our outdoor space for orienteering and problem solving. We can teach numeracy and phonics outdoors, for example, and we also have two outdoor gyms. The school now has double the capacity of the old building on the former site and the new location provides a link between the older parts of Eastfield and the new housing developments in Middle Deepdale to the north.
