Do you wish to make a positive contribution to children’s education at Woodborough Woods Primary school?

All the governors of a church school, work collectively to ensure the effectiveness of the school as a place of learning, where the Christian vision enables the whole community to flourish. All Church of England schools must have foundation governors nominated by the local church PCC and appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) or appointed by the DBE directly. Schools need and benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their governing body.

Do you have any of the following skills/experience? Governance in any sector Special educational needs Financial planning Professional leadership Primary education, including Early Years Budget monitoring Safeguarding Facilities management, health and safety Human Resources Do you have the confidence to ask challenging questions?

Woodborough Woods currently has vacancies for three Foundation Governors to join the governing body. The governing body’s role has three core functions:

1. Ensuring the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction is clear

2. Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff

3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent A governor operates as part of the team, with corporate responsibility; their work is strategic rather than operational. What does the role offer?

o A sense of achievement in helping to make a difference to children’s progress and achievement.

o Access to a programme of free education/governance training.

o A chance to develop your own personal and leadership/management skills.

What are the time commitments needed?  Prepare for and attend:

*one Full Governing Body meeting per term (two hours in the evening)

*at least two subcommittee meetings termly (two hours in the evening)

*focussed termly monitoring visits during the school day (up to two per term)

*statutory and desirable training

School governors have a right to reasonable time off work for their public duties, although this may be unpaid. Your company’s HR department will be able to tell you about its policy.
