What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an energetic and innovative Guidance Manager to take on the day-today leadership of our pupil support unit, ‘The Hub’. Our Guidance Managers are central to the progress of our pupils and the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in supporting pupils’ progress and wellbeing.

The aim of the Hub is to re-engage a small group of pupils in their education, recognising that not every pupil is the same and that some may require alternative ways to access their learning. Our pupils see the Hub as a place of safety, where they can build relationships with each other and with trusted adults. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our Hub pupils through their journey at Toynbee, including supervising learning sessions, supporting pupils with all aspects of their school life and working closely with parents, teachers, the SENCO and the Senior Leadership Team to offer all our Hub pupils the platform for success in their future education and livelihood.

What the school offers its staff

The successful candidate will:

  • Be committed to supporting all pupils to achieve their “Personal Best”
  • Lead by example
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Be forward thinking, resilient and able to work under pressure.
  • Have proven literacy and numeracy skills. (Equivalent to at least a GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English)

Whilst previous secondary school experience is not necessarily essential, a passion for supporting pupils to achieve their potential is crucial.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a school that is building on its already successful results and reputation within the local community. We have an excellent track record of developing and supporting our staff to progress both professionally and in their careers.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to join our Mathematics team on a part or full time basis to start in September 2025. This role is suitable for both ECTs, who would benefit from a comprehensive range of support and guidance, and more experienced teachers alike. We are open to applicants who may be looking for part time work as well as applicants looking for a full-time position.

You will join a highly successful and well-resourced Maths Department where the focus in recent years has been on consistency of approaches, creating a productive and effective department where we have the belief that all children will achieve their potential. The department really does embody the school motto of “Personal Best” working together with pupils to encourage them to meet their individual goals.  While we are very proud of these outcomes for our students in recent years, we remain driven and determined to improve even further. We are keen to employ a teacher who will share in this commitment whilst developing their own leadership.

Toynbee School is an oversubscribed school with consistently high achievement and progress across all subjects. The school was categorised as ‘Good’ by OFSTED in October 2015 and again in March 2019.  We offer all staff:

An extensive CPD and Induction programme
Excellent facilities
A supportive team environment
Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

We have an excellent track record of developing and supporting our staff to progress both professionally, and in their career.

If you feel that you could contribute to the Maths Department’s continued success and if you would like to work in a school which is genuinely supportive and developmental then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged and warmly welcomed.
